Keep your eyes open for Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Department (SHFD) members wearing new “Strike Team” shirts with these patches. Wondering what a “Strike Team” is or what “7514” stands for?

A Strike Team also called a Task force is a group of different type of apparatus for a specific purpose, such as a structure Fire task Force would be 2 ladders, 3 engines…there are some for brush fires and water rescue, atv’s, boats, etc.

SHFD is part of the Statewide Fire Disaster Plan- each County has a Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator- Dave Evanuska is our Deputy Coordinator. Our ‘area” of Fairfield County is designated “751”. Each team has specific number so the Tanker Strike Team, that we are a part of in our area, is designated “7514”.  Our Tanker Strike Team is comprised of SHFD, Mill Plain, Redding, Sandy Hook and New Fairfield. A strike team is 5 of same resources- so 5 tankers or 5 engines or 5 rescues vehicles.

SHFD’s Engine 1 is a Tanker pumper that is prime to be a member of this task team and we are honored thanks to David Evanuska’s efforts.

Why have “Strike Teams” In the event of a large structure fire, Mass casualty, natural disaster or anything that demands additional help the Strike Team is alerted state wide and resources poor in to help out.  Love life, Stay safe.
