Bloomington, IN – Monroe County authorities are actively searching for a suspect after a stolen vehicle was driven onto the tarmac of Monroe County Airport during a dramatic Christmas Day police pursuit, officials said. The incident involved a stolen Chevy Equinox, which sparked a multi-jurisdiction response and left investigators seeking leads on a potentially armed and dangerous individual.
Police Chase Begins on City Streets
The pursuit began around 4:45 p.m. on December 25, 2025, when Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies spotted a black Chevy Equinox reported stolen the previous day. Deputies attempted a traffic stop near S. Rogers Street and S. Rockport Road, but the driver failed to pull over, initiating a high-speed chase westbound.
As the pursuit progressed, the suspect reportedly drove through local streets and eventually reached the Monroe County Airport, where authorities say the vehicle breached an interior security gate near the control tower and entered the airport tarmac, posing a significant threat to airport operations and safety.
Vehicle Leaves Airport, Ends Up in Greene County
After leaving airport grounds, the stolen vehicle crashed through a fence along Kirby Road and entered Greene County. Despite tire deflation attempts and continued pursuit, deputies eventually lost sight of the car, ending the active chase for safety reasons.
Investigators later found the abandoned Chevy Equinox behind a residence on E. State Road 54 in Greene County. A Bloomington Police K9 unit was called to track the suspect, but the individual remains at large.
Suspect Believed to Be Armed and Dangerous
Sheriff Ruben Marté stated that authorities have released photos of a potential suspect on social media, including posts shared by the Eastern Greene Fire Territory. Officials warn that the suspect is believed to have also stolen a Ford 250 and may be armed and dangerous, urging the public to exercise caution.
The stolen Chevy had been previously reported missing on Christmas Eve, and Bloomington Police assisted in towing the vehicle as part of the ongoing investigation.
