Stockton, CA — Deputy Chief Antonio Sajor Jr. Retires After 28 Years, Leaving Historic Legacy in Stockton PD

Deputy Chief Antonio Sajor Jr. officially retired from the Stockton Police Department on Friday, concluding a distinguished 28-year career that included historic milestones, leadership roles, and community-focused innovation, according to Stockton Police.

First Filipino-American to Hold High-Ranking Roles

Deputy Chief Sajor Jr. made history as the first person of Filipino descent to be promoted to both Captain and later Deputy Chief within the department. He joined the force in November 1997 and began his career in Field Operations as a Directed Patrol Officer in the STAND area.

“He broke barriers and set a powerful example for future generations,” said a spokesperson from the department.

He later served as a Community Police Officer assigned to the Sierra Vista Housing Development, and as a Narcotics Officer within the Special Investigations Division and the Central Valley HIDTA (High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force).

Rise Through the Ranks with Operational Excellence

In December 2007, Sajor Jr. was promoted to Sergeant, continuing his work in Field Operations. By 2011, he had advanced to Lieutenant, overseeing a range of important commands:

  • Watch Commander
  • South Strategic Operations Commander
  • Crisis Negotiations Team Commander
  • First Program Manager for the Chief’s Community Advisory Board

His rise continued in 2014, when he was promoted to Captain. Over the next eight years, he commanded four of the department’s five divisions, contributing significantly to strategy and interdepartmental coordination.

Academic Achievements and Professional Development

Sajor Jr. stood out for his academic accomplishments as well. In 2015, he became only the second SPD member to graduate from the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security, earning a Master of Arts degree.

“In 2020, he graduated from the California POST Command College, and his article was published in Police Chief Magazine,” the department noted.

His forward-thinking mindset helped modernize SPD operations and build bridges with community stakeholders.

Lasting Impact as Deputy Chief

Appointed Deputy Chief of Police in 2023, Sajor Jr. assumed command of the Logistics Bureau, where he led transformative changes. According to SPD:

“Over Logistics, he oversaw significant changes to our hiring process, departmental training, and the creation of the Community Relations Section.”

His final role underscored his commitment to enhancing internal development and public engagement within the department.

A Legacy of Leadership and Service

Throughout his career, Sajor Jr. was known for his collaborative approach, strategic leadership, and deep dedication to community policing.

“Deputy Chief Sajor made a positive impact on the community,” police officials said.

His retirement marks the end of an era for Stockton PD, but his legacy — as a pioneer, leader, and innovator — is expected to inspire future generations of law enforcement professionals.
