Plainsboro, NJ — A Staten Island man and his mother are facing multiple charges, including aggravated manslaughter and hindering apprehension, after a deadly crash in Plainsboro, New Jersey, allegedly caused by a street race on the Garden State Parkway.
Charges Against Alvi Limani and His Mother
Alvi Limani, 20, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, reckless assault by auto, endangering others, obstruction, tampering with records, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and driving with a revoked license.
His mother, Vilma Vneshta, 42, faces charges of hindering in the third degree. Both are currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center without bail.
Fatal Crash Details
According to the New Jersey State Police, officers responded to a deadly crash on June 29, just after 7 p.m., on the Garden State Parkway South. Authorities found Albion Hysenaj, 20, and another 20-year-old from Staten Island ejected from their vehicle after it rolled over multiple times.
“The 20-year-old victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with serious injuries, but Hysenaj was later pronounced dead,” New Jersey State Police stated.
Alvi Limani was allegedly racing a BMW on the Parkway at 112 mph—more than twice the speed limit—while weaving through traffic. The reckless driving caused his vehicle to crash into two other cars and roll over, ejecting both Hysenaj and the other occupant from the vehicle.
Mother and Son Flee to Miami
After the crash, Limani and his girlfriend, Emily Harrington, 19, are accused of fleeing the scene. Harrington, a passenger in Limani’s vehicle, is charged with hindering, obstruction, and conspiracy to endanger another person.
Jeter Ogando, 23, another street-racing participant, was arrested and faces charges of second-degree vehicular homicide and endangering another person.
In a desperate attempt to escape, Limani and his mother fled to Miami. They were arrested on July 17 near Miami International Airport as they were attempting to leave the country for Tirana, Albania. Detectives found that they had purchased Florida IDs, same-day passports, and plane tickets to Albania.
“Video footage shows Limani and Vneshta being cuffed on the tarmac,” officials said.
Ongoing Investigation and Federal Authorities Involved
According to an affidavit, Vilma Vneshta is originally from Albania, and detectives believe she still has ties to the country. Both Limani and his mother are listed as non-citizens in the U.S., and federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), are involved in the investigation.
The pair are currently being held at the Middlesex County Department of Corrections.
