Moncks Corner, SC – A 28-year-old man, William Edward Slaise III, was arrested following a joint operation between the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) and the North Charleston Police Department. Authorities say the operation targeted illegal narcotics distribution in Berkeley County.
Arrest and Charges
Slaise was taken into custody on August 21 and transported to the Hill-Finklea Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including:
- Trafficking cocaine
- Trafficking methamphetamine
- Possession with intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics
- Possession with intent to distribute Schedule IV narcotics
Authorities identified Slaise as a primary target in a Berkeley County Narcotics Task Force investigation that began in July, focusing on drug trafficking and distribution activities. Slaise, a North Charleston resident, was reportedly involved in distributing, transporting, and selling narcotics throughout Berkeley County, according to reports.
Vehicle Stop and Discovery
On August 21, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Slaise. He refused consent to search the car, prompting a Berkeley County K-9 unit to perform a free-air sniff, which triggered a probable cause search.
The search revealed:
- Approximately 2.3 ounces of cocaine
- Approximately 12.37 grams of MDMA
- 74 Xanax tablets
- 136 Adderall tablets
Search of Slaise’s Home
Following the vehicle search, the North Charleston Police Department executed a search warrant at Slaise’s residence. Officers recovered:
- Approximately 351 grams of cocaine
- 41 grams of psilocybin
Slaise was subsequently transported to the North Charleston Police Department after facing initial charges in Berkeley County.
Law Enforcement Collaboration
The successful arrest was credited to the collaboration of multiple units, including the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force, Intelligence Unit, K-9 Unit, and the North Charleston Police Department. Authorities emphasized that coordinated efforts are crucial in tackling illegal drug distribution networks.
Impact of Narcotics on Communities
Law enforcement officials note that cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription drug trafficking pose serious threats to public safety. These substances contribute to addiction, violence, and increased crime rates, making task force operations vital to protecting local communities.
Staying Vigilant Against Drug Crime
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity and support law enforcement efforts to disrupt drug distribution channels. Community awareness and cooperation play a key role in keeping neighborhoods safe.
