Wichita County, TX — Six women charged in connection with the July 4 ambush-style shooting of an Alvarado police officer at an ICE detention center are now being held in the Wichita County Jail. Federal prosecutors say the women were arraigned in Fort Worth earlier this week on serious charges stemming from the violent incident.
Names of the Defendants
According to jail records, the following women were booked into the Wichita County Law Enforcement Center on September 23, 2025 and remain in custody on a federal hold:
- Savanna Batten, of Joshua
- Joy Gibson, of Dallas
- Maricela Rueda, of Fort Worth
- Elizabeth Soto, of Fort Worth
- Lynette Sharp, of Watauga
- Rebecca Morgan, of Dallas
Court filings show that all six are included in federal complaints filed in the U.S. Northern District Court of Texas.
From Protest to Violence
The charges are tied to the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, an ICE facility under the Department of Homeland Security. Authorities initially responded to the site after reports of vandalism, with cars spray-painted with anti-immigration messages.
Federal documents reveal that while investigating, an Alvarado police officer was shot in the neck. Thankfully, the officer survived.
Officials later described the ordeal as a “peaceful protest turned shooting.” According to Texoma’s Homepage, the incident led to a total of 15 people being arrested on federal charges.
“This was an ambush-style shooting targeting law enforcement at a federal facility,” prosecutors stated in court filings.
Arraignment in Federal Court
On September 22, 2025, Batten, Gibson, Rueda, Soto, Sharp, and Morgan all appeared in federal court in Fort Worth for their arraignments. They face charges directly connected to the shooting and vandalism that occurred on July 4.
The specific details of the federal complaints have not yet been fully disclosed, but prosecutors say the investigation remains ongoing, with more evidence expected to surface in the coming weeks.
Community Impact and Next Steps
The attack at the Prairieland Detention Center has drawn widespread attention due to its mix of protest activity and targeted violence. Law enforcement officials emphasized the seriousness of striking at officers and federal facilities, warning that charges will reflect the gravity of the crime.
The six women remain held at the Wichita County Jail without bond, pending further federal proceedings.
