March 12, 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, and Community Members,

We have just been notified that an attendee at a national conference which several of our Bethel High School students and staff attended, tested positive for COVID-19.  We have been in contact with those families of students who attended that national conference. As per Connecticut State Department of Health COVID-19 Guidelines, they will be monitoring themselves for symptoms.

None of our students or staff are presenting with symptoms.   In an abundance of caution we are closing school tomorrow, Friday, March 13, 2020 so we can thoroughly assess the situation with our partner, Laura Vasile, Director of Health for the Town of Bethel, our Director of Emergency Management, Tom Galliford, and town officials.   I want to reiterate that this is a low risk situation. As always, you can find additional information at the Centers for Disease Control and the Department of Public Health.

We will continue to clean our facilities with specific attention to high traffic areas.

Again, we appreciate your patience as the situation is evolving.  We will provide an update tomorrow when we have more information, including if we have to extend the closing.   We will be sending home part of the supplemental materials our staff have prepared for our students this afternoon.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Christine L. Carver, Ed. D.

Superintendent of Schools
