Sen. Boucher: Let’s Stop the DOT’s Unilateral Fare Hikes!

For the past several years, the state Department of Transportation has conducted public hearings about the agency’s proposals to increase bus and rail fares. Each time, an overwhelming number of commuters have packed these hearings to tell the DOT that these hikes cannot continue while no appreciable improvements are being made to the system.

That is why I introduced Proposed Senate Bill 256, AN ACT CONCERNING LEGISLATIVE APPROVAL TO INCREASE RAIL OR BUS FARE.

This bill would require that any bus or rail fare increase proposed by the DOT must come before the legislature for approval. Senate Bill 256 will be before the legislature’s Transportation Committee for a public hearing on Monday, February 6 at 12:30 p.m. at the State Capitol in Hartford.

I know many or you will be working and unable to make it to Hartford, but you can still add your voice to the discussion.

You can submit testimony in support of the raised bill by:

Sending an email to tratestimony@cga.ct.gov

Put “Support Proposed Senate Bill 256” in the email’s subject line.

Feel free to copy me on your submission at Toni.Boucher@cga.ct.gov or let me know if you plan to personally testify before the committee Thank you
