Sen. Boucher Blasts Fare Hikes: “The hits just keep on coming for beleaguered Connecticut commuters.”
Senator Toni Boucher, Ranking Member of the state legislature’s Transportation Committee, released the following statement regarding Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s July 22 announcement (VIEW HERE: Governor Malloy’s letter to Legislative Leaders [PDF]) that Connecticut “must move forward” with fare hikes for train and bus commuters due to the state’s budget problems:
“The hits just keep on coming for beleaguered Connecticut commuters. Fare hikes here in Fairfield County will add to taxpayers’ burdens and make it even more costly to live, work and raise a family here. These increased fees are tax hikes, plain and simple. They serve as yet another disincentive for people to stay in Connecticut, and they come right on the heels of two historic tax hikes. I urge residents to mark their calendars and spread the word about the September public hearings on these fare hikes. Digging ever deeper into the wallets of overburdened commuters to help balance Connecticut’s budget is wrong, and I invite the public to stand strongly with me against these hikes.”
Information on the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s public hearings is attached below. CT DOT has yet to list an email address for the public to provide comments on the fare hikes.
