Saukville, Wisc. — A tragic crash on I-43 north in Saukville claimed the life of one driver and left several others injured after a semi-truck jackknifed into oncoming traffic. The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 26, around 3:10 p.m., involving a semi tractor-trailer and three additional vehicles, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
Semi Crosses Median, Collides With Multiple Vehicles
Authorities say the southbound semi lost control near STH 33, causing it to jackknife. The truck then crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes, striking a van and a car. Both vehicles became pinned beneath the semi after it blocked both northbound lanes, creating a chaotic and dangerous scene.
The driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the car suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency care, as per the reports.
Additional Vehicle Involved
A third vehicle, an SUV, collided with the semi shortly after the initial crash. Three occupants of the SUV sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries and were also hospitalized. The multiple-vehicle collision required extensive response from first responders and led to a closure of I-43 north for over five hours.
