Report by Paula Antolini, March 30, 2022, 1:40PM EDT

Today the Bethel Middle School Principal Bryan Watson notified parents of an incident reported to Bethel Middle School Administrators that a BMS student may have been in possession of a handgun and bullet.

After a thorough investigation it was realized there was no gun or bullet. It was not as it seemed.

Read letter from Principal Watson below.

The Bethel Middle School Principal Bryan Watson issued the following statement:

Dear Middle School Families,

It was reported to the Middle School Administration that a middle school student may have been in possession of a handgun and bullet. Obviously, these reports are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.

Through the investigation it was determined that there was no gun nor bullet at school or on any school bus.

Our investigation did find that a student has a USB Drive device that was in the shape of a bullet. These types of objects that resemble weapons are not permitted at school, on buses or at school sponsored events.

Bethel Middle School Administration met with the School Resource Officer, the family and followed the Board of Education policy to ensure the safety of the school community.

We are fortunate to have so many Bethel Middle School students understand the importance of being an upstander by reporting safety concerns to Bethel Middle School Staff when they hear it. Please cont=inue to encourage your children to report anything that may threaten the safety of the Bethel Middle School community.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Bryan Watson
