New Bedford, Massachusetts – Two individuals, including a repeat offender, are facing criminal charges after New Bedford police seized a firearm and illegal drugs during a recent operation. Authorities say the bust underscores ongoing concerns about illegal weapons and narcotics in the community.
Surveillance Leads to Arrest
Police reported that they received information indicating that 39-year-old Julio Camacho was illegally in possession of a firearm. Officers conducted surveillance and observed Camacho alongside another individual, 44-year-old Christina Duarte, entering a vehicle.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Massachusetts State Police, who assisted in a takedown that led to the arrest of both suspects.
Drugs and Firearm Seized
During the arrest, authorities discovered multiple illegal items. Camacho was found with a crack pipe, fentanyl, 28 grams of cocaine, and $126 in cash. In addition, police recovered an untraceable firearm on the front passenger side of the vehicle.
Officials highlighted Camacho’s lengthy criminal history, noting he has 105 adult entries and multiple outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.
Charges Filed
Following the bust, Camacho was charged with several serious offenses, including:
- Carrying a firearm without a license
- Trafficking 18 grams or more of cocaine
- Possession with intent to distribute and traffic offenses
Meanwhile, Duarte was charged with carrying an untraceable firearm without a license. Both individuals are currently in custody pending further legal proceedings.
