Rep. Carter Sends Sen. Blumenthal a Strong Letter: Blumenthal’s Conduct is Unbecoming a U.S. Senator
We have confirmed information from Rep. Dan Carter that an upcoming debate has been agreed upon and scheduled between Rep. Dan Carter (R) and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D), the candidates for U.S. Senator. The debate will be on Face The State on WFSB-Channel 3 at 11 a.m. on Oct. 23, 2016. The show host is Dennis House. (We do not have information about whom the moderator will be yet, or what questions will be asked, and format decided.)
However, on September 14, 2016, Rep. Dan Carter sent a strongly worded letter to Senator Dick Blumenthal regarding his refusal to agree to an open and fair debate schedule.

“I’m writing to express my sincere disappointment at your failure to agree to a fair and open debate schedule.
In your nearly forty years as a career politician you have run to television cameras and microphones to chastise industries, businesses and individuals for accountability, yet today you are working to run out the clock on this campaign and avoid accountability on your deplorable record.
As Connecticut’s U.S. Senator, you have called for openness and transparency in government nearly one hundred times, yet today you hide behind a veil of spokesmen and staff to answer for you and keep your record hidden from the voters.
I am embarrassed for you. This action is unbecoming of a United States Senator, but somehow I’m not surprised.
This is not the first time you’ve put politics over people. Throughout your career you have inserted yourself in tragic events to politicize them and draw attention to yourself. Decades of lying about your service in Vietnam; lying to the public about being with the families from Sandy Hook School when they were told of their children’s murders; using tragedies like Sandy Hook and the terror attack in Orlando to raise campaign cash, if this were my record I wouldn’t want to be held accountable either.
I hope you will reconsider the numerous invitations I know your campaign has received and will give the voters the attention they deserve through fair and open debates.
With millions of dollars in your campaign coffers, a name brand in Connecticut worth approval ratings that are clearly a mile wide and an inch deep, I can’t imagine you’re afraid to debate a sitting State Representative from small town Bethel.
What I’m certain you are afraid of is that voters will finally know the partisan, political elitist you are through your record of failure over the last six years.
