BETHEL, CT – Today, Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Dan Carter condemned Senators Dick Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, and the Connecticut Democratic Party for using the horrible terrorist attack in Orlando to raise “blood money” to fund their egotistical agendas.
“As has too often been the case, Senators Blumenthal and Murphy have made instances of national tragedy more about themselves and their agenda than about the victims, survivors and doing what’s right,” said Carter. “Sadly, today is no different.”
“Today, while Governor Dan Malloy cut a deal with election watchdogs to pay a $325,000 fine after illegally circumventing clean election laws to raise money from state contractors, Senators Blumenthal and Murphy were busy in Washington turning the terrorist attack on the LBGTQ community in Orlando into a fundraising opportunity for Connecticut Democrats,” Carter said. “This is exactly the reason people are so fed up with Washington DC politicians.”
“Unfortunately, this is not the first time Senator Blumenthal and Connecticut Democrats have used a national tragedy and fear mongering to raise campaign cash,” added Carter. “Senator Blumenthal was reprimanded by the New Haven Register for using the devastating mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School to raise campaign cash just four months after it occurred.”
“Today’s filibuster wasn’t about gun control, or terrorism, or the LGBTQ community, it was about fundraising and fear mongering,” said Carter. “We need to address the root causes of what happened this weekend and think both strategically and tactically about what can be done to prevent another radical Islamist terrorist from using any kind of weapon to harm innocent Americans.”
“Today Senator Markey (D-MA) said ‘this is just a preview of coming attractions’ when referring to Sunday’s terrorist attack in Orlando. What kind of a sick taunt is that?” Carter asked. “Governing by fear is no way to lead and that’s just what Senator Blumenthal and his colleagues are trying to do.”
“We must find out how individuals like this terrorist are being radicalized, how did he fall through the cracks at the FBI, how was he able to get a permit to carry a gun for his job? Our system failed, and as a result, more than 100 people are dead or wounded. Senators Blumenthal and Murphy are using the Senate floor to raise money for their campaigns, rather than using it to propose solutions that will support and protect, not only the LGBTQ community, who remain a frequent target of ISIS and radical Islamists around the world, but all Americans” Carter added. ”
“There are too many unanswered questions and for Senators Blumenthal and Murphy as well as the Connecticut Democrats, to feign concern and shed crocodile tears, while sticking their hands out for cash, is despicable and they should be held accountable and made to apologize to the people of Connecticut and to the LBGTQ community” concluded Carter.
