Reminder: Next Bethel Proposed Crematorium P&Z Hearing Is Tomorrow, July 15, 2015
As the clock is ticking on crematorium applicant B. Shawn McLoughlin’s time frame allowed for approval of his crematorium by the Bethel Planning & Zoning Commission (P&Z), the number of Bethel residents and business owners who are opposed to the proposed Bethel is constantly growing. They are against a crematorium in Clarke Business Park, or anywhere else in Bethel, CT.
The attendance at the last P&Z hearing on May 12, 2015 was so large it had to immediately be moved to the General Purpose Room, from the smaller Room D in the municipal center. The attendance at tomorrow’s hearing could also be in high numbers, so the July 15 hearing has been scheduled in the larger General Purpose Room directly.
The next crematorium P&Z hearing is tomorrow, July 15, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. in the General Purpose Room of the Clifford J. Hurgin Municipal Center, 1 School Street, Bethel, CT.
The topics that will be heard at tomorrow’s P&Z hearing are:
P&Z application approval: Monocrete crematorium Site Plan/Special Permit for use as crematorium
P&Z application approval: for plot of land for use as crematorium19a-320(a) General Statutes
This upcoming hearing includes two separate proposed crematorium applications for the same proposed crematorium project, as McLoughlin’s attorney Peter Olsen tries many avenues to try and get P&Z approval. This includes a revised crematorium building plan, presented at the May 12, 2015 P&Z hearing by the applicant’s engineer Mike Bizzuco, that showed the crematorium building split in two, and other revisions, in order to conform to Zoning Regulations, such as distance to a residence in the park and changing too-high retaining walls into stepped lower height double walls. The split-in-two building now also required a second “loading zone” and driveway to the second building, and many more revisions to address the new design. The other application is for approval of land for a crematorium.
The P&Z approval is still pending on all crematorium applications from McLoughlin.
McLoughlin is the owner of Mono-crete Step Co. LLC, located at 12 Trowbridge Drive in Clarke Business park in Bethel, CT. He wants to build the crematorium on that same piece of property where his present business is located. The crematorium would be located on the front left corner of the property as you view it from the street, or northwest corner, approximately 48 feet from the property line of CT Coining, the next door business at 10 Trowbridge Drive, owned by Greg Marciano.
Comments from the public will be taken by the P&Z at tomorrow’s hearing. Attend this important meeting and let your voice be heard.

Please note: There is a third application recently submitted to the P&Z about the crematorium, from Greg Marciano, owner of CT Coining, the business next door to the proposed crematorium site, at 10 Trwobrodge Drive. It is requesting to Amend Section 4.3.C.10a, Eliminate Crematory Facility.
