Springfield, OH — Police in Springfield have identified two suspects in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a woman and her young son on Sunday, August 10, an incident that led to a dramatic rescue and the arrest of one man, while another remains at large.
Incident Began With Weapons Complaint
According to WDTN News, Springfield officers were first dispatched around 3:45 p.m. to the 200 block of South Race Street for a reported weapons complaint. Upon arrival, they learned a fight was in progress and quickly discovered that a mother and child had been abducted.
The suspects were identified as David Kidd Jr. and David Kidd Sr. — the child’s father and grandfather.
“Officers found that a woman and her son had been abducted by the son’s father and grandfather,” police said.
Witnesses Describe Assault at Snyder Park
Investigators determined the group was seen earlier near Snyder Park, where police say Kidd Jr. assaulted the mother. Witnesses reported seeing the woman “covered in blood” before she was forced into a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck.
One witness told police she later received a Facebook message from the victim, stating she was locked in a room inside a Rosewood Avenue home with the baby.
Key witness accounts included:
- “They basically just kidnapped her and her baby,” one 911 caller told dispatchers.
- Another caller described the disturbing scene: “She’s all bloody… they’re walking down by the train tracks. She looks in bad shape… it’s not good.”
Rescue at Rosewood Avenue Home
Police surrounded the Rosewood Avenue residence and successfully recovered both the mother and child. Kidd Sr. was arrested at the scene, but Kidd Jr. was not inside the home and remains at large.
Authorities say numerous 911 calls from concerned residents helped lead to the swift recovery. Several callers provided detailed descriptions of the suspects’ movements and vehicle.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Kidd Sr. made his first court appearance on Monday, where he was arraigned on one count of abduction. He is scheduled to appear in court again on August 13.
As of now, Kidd Jr. has not been apprehended. Police confirmed they are still actively searching for him and have asked the public to report any sightings immediately.
Police Urge Public Assistance
Springfield Police are urging anyone with information about David Kidd Jr.’s whereabouts to contact them directly. They can be reached via non-emergency police lines or by calling 911 if the suspect is spotted.
“Community tips were critical in rescuing the victims quickly,” officials noted. “We’re asking for that same community support to locate the second suspect.”
