LIVERMORE, CA. — A routine traffic stop by the Livermore Police Department (LPD) early Saturday morning led to the arrest of a Pleasant Hill man and the discovery of a significant quantity of illegal drugs both in his car and at his residence, officials said.
Traffic Stop Leads to Major Drug Bust
According to police, the incident occurred on November 8, 2025, around 1:00 a.m., when Livermore Police Officers conducted a traffic stop near Railroad Avenue and North Livermore Avenue after a driver failed to yield at a stop sign.
The driver, identified as 22-year-old Daniel Sutton of Pleasant Hill, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Upon approaching the car, officers reportedly noticed cocaine in plain view and a half-pound of marijuana on the floorboard.
When questioned, Sutton admitted to having additional narcotics inside the vehicle and at his residence, giving officers grounds for a search.
Drugs Found Inside the Vehicle
During the vehicle search, police discovered a large cache of narcotics packaged for distribution. The items seized included:
- 2 pounds of Psilocybin (mushrooms)
- Over 1 ounce of Cocaine packaged for sale
- More than 2 ounces of MDMA (Ecstasy)
- 100+ tabs of LSD
- 35 Amphetamine pills
- 100 THC vape pens
- ½ pound of Marijuana
Authorities say the variety and quantity of drugs found indicate active distribution operations, not personal use.
Home Search Reveals Even More Drugs
Following the traffic stop, Livermore Police obtained a search warrant for Sutton’s residence in Pleasant Hill. During the follow-up search, officers uncovered:
- 2 additional pounds of Psilocybin
- 65 Amphetamine pills
- 100+ tabs of LSD
The combined seizures from the vehicle and residence represented a substantial drug operation involving multiple types of controlled substances.
Suspect Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges
Daniel Sutton was taken into custody and booked on multiple felony counts, including possession and transportation of controlled substances for sale.
The Livermore Police Department stated that no other suspects were involved and that the case remains under active investigation. Additional charges could be filed as toxicology tests and evidence analysis are completed.
Police Praise Officer Awareness
Officials credited the arrest to the keen observation skills of the responding officers. What began as a minor traffic violation evolved into a major drug seizure, thanks to quick and thorough investigation work at the scene.
The Livermore Police Department emphasized the importance of routine patrols and traffic enforcement, which often uncover hidden criminal activity.
