Miami County, OH — A dramatic crash on I-75 South this morning involved a pickup truck that went off the highway, traveled through a field, and went airborne before striking two vehicles, according to police.
White Pickup Truck Leaves Road and Hits Vehicles
The incident occurred just before the State Route 571 exit to Tipp City around 9 a.m., closing southbound lanes until about 11 a.m. Preliminary reports from Tipp City Police indicate that a white pickup truck was near Menards on Weller and Harmony drives when it left the roadway.
“The truck then traveled about 370 feet through a field, went airborne, crashed through a fence, then slammed into a red pickup truck and semitrailer on I-75 South,” Sgt. Darren Soutar told WHIO News.
The red pickup was t-boned in the impact, while the semi was only clipped, Sgt. Soutar added.
Drivers Transported to Hospitals
Both pickup truck drivers were transported to area hospitals. While their exact conditions were not immediately confirmed, authorities noted that both were alert and speaking with investigators and first responders during transport.
“The driver of the semi was not hurt,” Sgt. Soutar confirmed.
Possible Medical Emergency Under Investigation
Police are continuing to investigate why the white pickup truck left the side road and entered the highway. Sgt. Soutar indicated that authorities are exploring whether the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.
Key points from the incident:
- The truck traveled 370 feet through a field and went airborne before hitting vehicles.
- Southbound I-75 lanes were closed for approximately two hours for investigation and cleanup.
Authorities continue to examine the cause of the crash and urge drivers to exercise caution near highway exits.
