Petition to Save School Funding, Rep. Harding Asks You to Sign

Harding: “If the Governor’s unfair budget proposal stays as is, students in our towns will bear the burden of fiscal irresponsibility from the State Capitol, potentially losing crucial programs and staff, while local property taxes will potentially be forced to rise. I ask the Governor, simply, why are we balancing our State budget on the backs of our local schools and students? All while we continue to waste our money on projects like a new ‘busway to nowhere.’   There are many ways to find efficiencies in our State budget; this is not it!”

Rep. Harding Asks You to Sign His Petition to Save School Funding

Message from CT State Representative Stephen Harding:

April 15, 2016 – Earlier this week, Governor Malloy announced his budget proposals which included significant cuts to Educational Cost Sharing funding to local municipalities. In total, these cuts rise to over $500,000 locally.

Even though the cuts to school funding in our district were not as drastic as some other Fairfield County towns, any cut in state funding to our local schools is unacceptable and sets a bad precedent in years to come.

If the Governor’s unfair budget proposal stays as is, students in our towns will bear the burden of fiscal irresponsibility from the State Capitol, potentially losing crucial programs and staff, while local property taxes will potentially be forced to rise. I ask the Governor, simply, why are we balancing our State budget on the backs of our local schools and students? All while we continue to waste our money on projects like a new “busway to nowhere.”  There are many ways to find efficiencies in our State budget; this is not it!

I ask you to join me in reaching out to the governor’s office and make him aware of our objection to his budget proposals, which punish our local students for Connecticut’s fiscal irresponsibility. Below, I have created a petition calling on the Governor to restore these cuts. I kindly ask that you consider signing this petition and join me on this important issue.
