Blackstone, MA – A serious crash in Blackstone late Sunday night left one person airlifted to a hospital after a vehicle struck a tree and landed on top of another car, according to the Blackstone Fire Department.
The collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. in a residential area of the town. Fire officials said crews arrived to find a heavily damaged vehicle on top of another parked car, requiring complex extrication efforts.
Emergency Response and Rescue
Firefighters worked quickly to free at least one trapped individual from the wreckage. Due to the severity of injuries, a medical helicopter was requested.
Assistance was provided by additional fire crews from Woonsocket and North Smithfield, who helped establish a landing zone for the helicopter. The patient was then flown to a hospital for emergency care.
Officials have not yet released the victim’s name or condition. No other injuries were reported by NBC Boston, and further details on how the crash occurred have not been made public.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are working to determine what caused the vehicle to lose control, strike a tree, and end up on top of another car. Possible factors under review include speed, driver impairment, and road conditions at the time of the crash.
Police have not yet confirmed whether charges or citations will be issued.
Roadway Safety Concerns
Incidents like this highlight the dangers of loss-of-control crashes, especially at higher speeds or on roads with fixed objects like trees, poles, or guardrails. Safety experts say that collisions with fixed objects account for a significant number of severe and fatal injuries each year in the United States.
Drivers are reminded to:
- Maintain safe speeds, especially on residential or rural roads
- Avoid distractions such as mobile phone use
- Adjust driving for night conditions and reduced visibility
- Ensure seatbelts are worn by all occupants at all times
The combination of high speed, roadside hazards, and potential driver inattention can turn a simple error into a life-threatening crash.
