Bangor, ME — A Havertown, Pennsylvania mother has been charged after her three-year-old daughter was found dead in a vehicle on August 9, 2025, in Bangor, Maine, authorities confirmed.
Details of the Incident
Kelly Brown, 40, appeared before the Penobscot Judicial Center on Monday, where bail was set for her. Maine State Police (MSP) revealed that the child was discovered unresponsive inside a vehicle at a local business, prompting a response from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

- Brown was found nearby and detained by authorities.
Manslaughter Charge Filed
Following the discovery, investigators, including the MSP Evidence Response Team, were called to the scene, and a manslaughter charge was filed against Brown. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
“Detectives are working to determine the cause and manner of death,” said an MSP spokesperson.
Autopsy Results
An autopsy was conducted on the child the following day, and according to the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner, the child showed signs of hyperthermia. However, further tests are required to conclusively determine the cause of death.
Previous Welfare Check
Before the child’s death, Maine State Police had conducted a welfare check on Brown and the child, MSP said. Authorities assured that the incident was isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
