Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Candlewood Lake Road in Brookfield

BROOKFIELD, CT: At approximately 10:11 AM on October 4, Brookfield police were notified via multiple 911 calls of a motor vehicle crash with injuries on Candlewood Lake Road, north of it intersection with Main Drive.

When police and other emergency responders arrived at the scene they found that a pedestrian, Linda Warner (age 76) of Brookfield, had been struck by a motor vehicle while walking or jogging along Candlewood Lake Road in the area of #279. Warner was transported by Brookfield ambulance to the Danbury Hospital emergency department, where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

The driver of the vehicle (a Ford SUV), which struck Warner, was Gary Elwell (age 50) of Brookfield. Elwell Called 911 after the crash, and was at the scene when police arrived. Elwell was uninjured and there were no other passengers in the vehicle.

The motor vehicle crash is being investigated by the Brookfield Accident Investigation Team.

Candlewood Lake Road between Main Drive in Kellogg Street was closed from approximately 10:15 AM until 1:07 PM while police investigated.
