Long Beach, CA – A woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk, authorities reported. The Long Beach Police Department identified the suspect as Eric Dewayne Moody, 65, of Los Angeles.

Crash Details

On September 12, 2025, police responded to a crash near Long Beach Boulevard and 68th Street at approximately 12:15 p.m. The victim, a woman whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, was struck by a Chevrolet Camaro while walking in a marked crosswalk.

According to reports from KTLA, the victim was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Suspect Arrested

The driver, Eric Dewayne Moody, initially fled the scene but returned about 40 minutes later. He was arrested and faces charges of:

  • Vehicular manslaughter
  • Felony hit-and-run

Moody is being held at the Long Beach City Jail with a $50,000 bail.

Investigation Status

Authorities said the cause of the crash is still under investigation. At this time, speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Victim Information

The victim’s identity is being withheld by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office pending notification of next of kin.
