On Friday a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention Advisory Panel recommended resuming the use of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine, in the United States. This is based on the decision that the benefits outweigh the risks. However, the panel proposed that the FDA consider adding a warning label for women under age 50.
The recommendation was adopted 10-4 with one abstention, by the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
The use of the J&J (J&J/Janssen)vaccine had previously been paused because the safety systems that make sure vaccines are safe received a small number of reports of people who got this vaccine experiencing a rare and severe type of blood clot with low platelets.
