Greece, N.Y. — A recent overdose in Greece has led to significant law enforcement action, resulting in the seizure of drugs and firearms and the arrest of two individuals, officials said.

Detective Sergeant Jeffrey Dill of the Greece Police Department emphasized that when a resident dies from an overdose, the investigation does not end there. Police actively pursue the sources of these drugs to prevent further harm to the community.

Investigation and Arrests

In August, an overdose incident prompted a detailed investigation that spanned over two months. The Greece Police Department collaborated with the Rochester Police Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to trace illegal drug activity in the area.

The investigation focused on two properties: one on Adeline Road in Greece and another on Ridgeway Avenue in Rochester. As per 13WHAM, during searches at these locations on Wednesday, police recovered:

  • Eight firearms
  • Approximately 50 grams of cocaine, with a street value of several thousand dollars

The arrests were made as follows:

  • Derek Hall, 45, of Greece — Charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon, among other offenses. Hall was taken to Monroe County Jail with a $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
  • Deche Davis, 45, of Rochester — Also charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon. Davis was released to electronic monitoring pending federal charges.

Law Enforcement Tactics

Dill noted that the department used a variety of tools during the investigation, including drones, social media monitoring, and license plate reader cameras, to track suspects and build a strong case.

“Our goal is to provide justice for families by identifying who is selling drugs that may have contributed to an overdose and removing those individuals from the community,” Dill said.

Impact on the Community

According to Dill, drug activity like this has widespread consequences, affecting not only the immediate families but also friends and other residents in the area.

“It’s terrible for families,” he said. “It obviously affects the immediate family, but you also see it with friends and other people down the line.”

Dill also issued a stern warning to other individuals involved in drug sales in the area:

“We’re definitely going to be looking into you, and we may meet you in the future.”
