Some main roads near Route 72 in New Britain have been closed down and three schools are on lockdown due to a possible threatening situation stemming from the Achieve Financial Credit Union at 450 West Main St., WFSB reports.
A possible suspect with a bomb is reported by eyewitnesses who reported seeing wires coming from the suspect’s chest, WSFB reports.
SWAT, bomb squads and police are presently on the scene and buildings around the credit union have been evacuated, reports Fox News.
Police have also surrounded a location that may be connected to this incident, at 133 Lufkin Lane in Bristol, a home owned by Matthew Yussman. “According to his social media accounts, he is the CFO of the Achieve Financial Credit Union,” Fox news reports.
The situations in Bristol and New Britain are confirmed by police, to be connected.
Miss Porter’s in Farmington and the Ivy Drive Elementary and Northeast Middle Schools in Bristol are on precautionary locked down while during the ongoing investigation. The nearby schools, Slade and Lincoln Elementary, are not in lockdown.
Mayor Erin Stewart would not specify what the reason was for the closure. Her latest tweets from Feb. 23, two hours ago, are “precautionary measures being taken for all resident & commuter safety” and “Large police event, Lincoln & W. Main, expect road closures.”
The road closure affects Route 72 eastbound at exit 7, Lincoln Street, West Main Street and Blackrock Avenue. The Department of Transportation reported a backup on Rt. 72, to exit 9.

The FBI is involved, NBC TV reported.
The incident began around 8 a.m., said and New Britain Police Chief James Wardwell, according to the Hartford Courant, and it is still an active scene. “Everybody’s safe,” Wardwell said at 12:20 p.m., the Hartford Courant reports.
Police began to leave the area just before 12:30 p.m., the Hartford Courant reports, but it is not sure if the incident is over yet.
Police have scheduled a press conference for 3 p.m.

The incident that occurred yesterday in involving Achieve Financial Credit Union at 450 West Main St., New Britain, CT, stemmed from a home invasion at 133 Lufkin Lane in Bristol, a home owned by bank employee Matthew Yussman, 46. Yussman’s mother was found tied to a bed in the home, not inured, and Yussman was found in his car with a bomb-like device attached to a vest he was wearing, New Britain Police Chief James Wardwell said. The device was removed and found to be fake. Yussman was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. The device was given to the FBI to be analyzed at a lab, New Britain Police said.
Law enforcement described the incident as an alleged robbery attempt during a home invasion at the Yussman home. The investigation is ongoing and police are looking for suspects, two males.
NBC Connecticut reports that law enforcement sources received information that “two people wearing masks and gloves forced their way into the manager’s home on Lufkin Lane in Bristol overnight. They allegedly outfitted him with an explosive device and demanded that he drive them to the Achieve Financial Credit Union, at 450 West Main Street, and empty its vault.”
The latest update from NBC lists the suspect description as, “Two men in dark clothing, ski masks and ski goggles who bound a New Britain bank manager and his mother in their Bristol home overnight on Monday, then forced the man to wear what looked like a bomb and go to his bank to try to get money, police reported.”
Today police released more information and said it was “two men with distinct accents” who had confronted Matthew Yussman during the incident on Monday.
NBC reports a further police description of the suspects “One of the men has a medium build, and the accents were not consistent with being Connecticut natives, police said in a news release. They were wearing dark clothing, ski masks and ski goggles and might have been in an older model white four-door Mazda, which police believe was in the area of Tunxis Mead and Route 10 in Farmington on Monday morning.”
Asking anyone who saw the Mazda or who had security cameras that face the road in the area are asked to call New Britain or Bristol Police.
