Glendale, AZ — A tragic incident unfolded on Friday night when Yarely Ashley Hermosillo, a 27-year-old online content creator, was killed after a gunman fired a shot randomly during a road-rage altercation in Glendale.
Victim Not the Target of Gunfire
Hermosillo, a popular reels creator with 144,000 followers on Instagram, was a passenger in a vehicle on Camelback Road at around 11:45 p.m., when the gunfire erupted. Police stated that she was not the intended target, but was struck after a driver fired a shot in a random direction following a brief argument between two vehicles. Hermosillo was struck in the right eye and was later pronounced dead at 1 a.m. on Saturday.
According to the official police report, “the shot was fired after people in two cars exchanged words,” with the shooter acting in a random and reckless manner (source).
Suspect Arrested and Charged with Murder
Jesus Preciado Dousten, 33, was arrested the following day and faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons, and endangerment. Police say that Dousten, driving a GMC pickup, pulled out a black handgun and said “You want some of this?” in Spanish before firing at random during the exchange.
Witnesses reported that Dousten appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident, according to the affidavit.
Family Devastated by Loss
Hermosillo’s family is mourning the loss of a young mother who was starting to see success in her social media career, which largely centered around cooking. Her 3-year-old son now faces life without his mother, and family members are struggling to cope with the senseless loss.
“I will never forget my mom’s screams when I arrived at the hospital,” Cryshan Lopez, Hermosillo’s sister, tearfully shared during a news conference. “Our family is heartbroken beyond words.”
Lopez went on to say that her sister was full of dreams, plans, and goals for her future—all of which were taken away in the most cruel way imaginable.
Suspect’s Criminal History
Dousten’s arrest is not his first encounter with the law. According to court documents, he has an extensive criminal record, including a road-rage incident in Phoenix in June, where he was accused of punching another driver in the face. His record also includes convictions for attempted theft, unlawful flight from law enforcement, and resisting arrest.
Police have not confirmed the specific details of the verbal argument that led to the fatal shot, but a spokesperson noted that nothing about the exchange was criminal in itself. The exact reason Dousten chose to fire the weapon remains unclear.
Ongoing Investigation and Bail Set
Dousten is currently being held on $1 million bail. As of the latest update, no attorney has been listed for him in online court records.
“Why the suspect chose to fire the weapon remains unknown,” said Jose Miguel Santiago, spokesperson for the Glendale Police.
