THOUGHT AND POEM

One of life’s greatest joys we can experience is when we give birth, or have a part in what leads to the birth of a baby. I was blessed with the gift of being the mother to two beautiful children.
Any who have been pregnant can understand the anxieties we go through especially if the birth will be our first. Even after making it through the 9 months waiting period, we then have questions such as if we will be the best mother we can be, or if we will make the same mistakes our parent’s made? Of course only time will tell. And time did tell me that I made a few mistakes of my own for sure.
I learned a lot about love when I became pregnant and when I held my children for the first time. There is no other feeling like it. The babies don’t care if you have curlers in your hair during their feeding periods at night, or if you are wearing your false teeth, or if you look like you had been dragged through a wringer. They just coo and smile and get all excited when they hear you coming. Their love is so unconditional.
I just wonder where we fail in keeping this trend going as we rear our children, see them leave our homes and venture out on their own? Seems like we lose a little something along the way? But if we could turn back the clocks I would go back in time to when my babies were babies and bask in the fact that they needed me in every part of their life. I know one thing for sure… these were the greatest moments in my life.

ONE OF LIFE’S GREATEST MOMENTS
A women’s smile is tattooed on her heart
Right from the very start
Of learning that she would soon be giving birth
No greater moments could there be found in all the earth.
She rubs her abdomen, all the while her eyes do glisten
And she tells the good news she has just received to all who will listen.
She thinks back on the day she might have conceived
This little miracle inside her is really there though she finds it hard to believe.
No greater love is there than that of two people in love
And love will bind them to each other, no matter if things get tough.
Their love blended together and made this precious child
And it will be in their arms to hold in just a little while.
The waiting part is hard
A woman is in a hurry for motherhood to start.
A man is anxious about fatherhood and the added responsibilities that now lay on his shoulders
But has joy just the same
And he hopes for a “baby boy” to carry on the family name.
The time now has arrived for the child to be born and welcomed into this world
The father decides that it will be okay, if the baby turns out to be a “girl.”
Meanwhile the mother is panting and wishes for her baby to arrive
When the baby is born she has been told the memories of her birth pains she will put aside.
Not long afterwards the baby finally appears
And it is born amongst the parent’s joys and many tears.
Theirs to hold, to love and to watch grow in the years to come
One of life’s greatest moments, and a new chapter in their lives has just begun.

Going To Have a Baby
You got the news that you were going to have a baby,
You were wondering why you had been gaining weight lately,
And even though the weight gain you knew,
You didn’t know you were now “two.”
You wear a smile that is a mile wide,
And you are beaming from ear to ear with pride,
You can’t wait for your husband to come home so share this good news,
You want to stay busy to pass the time, so look for something to do.
You call your mom and tell her she is going to be a “Granny,”
“Granny” sounds too old for her, but she is happy,
Then she begins to tell you all the problems you might have,
And you wondered how in just a few minutes she turned the “high” you were on to feeling “bad.”
She tells you how much more weight you might gain,
And of course about all the labor pains,
The extra wake ups at night to come,
She goes down the list of horrors and then some.
You hang up the phone and you are confused,
You are no longer happy, but in a depressing mood,
You walk around your house trying to win back your joy,
And you can’t believe you mom only told you the negatives and you are now annoyed.
The hubby comes home and into his arms you fly,
With your head on his shoulders, you cry, cry, and cry.
He doesn’t understand what he may have done to bring on her tears,
And as she tells him about the good news, the phone call with her mom, he draws her near.
He wipes her tears and the mood switches gears,
He tells her all the lovely things a pregnant woman wants to hear.
And he tells her no matter how much weight she will gain,
He will love her just the same.
She gives him a kiss for saying all the “right” things,
And both now standing there smiling,
At the amazing prospect that soon they will have a little one
A new journey for them has just begun.

The Fifteen Houses, a Novel
The Fifteen Houses is the first book of this new and exciting series to be published. Staged in the beautiful and scenic palate of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, in the early 1950’s, the main character delves into her reoccurring and discomforting memories of her younger, formative years. Searching for answers to questions that have resurfaced in her mind over and over again during her time away from her family, she seeks to find rhyme and reasons to her insecurities, anger, phobias, fears, and life’s choices. Julianne Marguerite, one of eleven children, is determined to uncover the “mystery” that resulted in the downfall of her family. As you turn the pages in the book, each series of memories, will open a different door, to the different homes, (“Fifteen” to be exact).
