Obituary: Ruth Dibble, 85, Passed Away March 26th

OBITUARY

Ruth Dibble

Ruthie May (Taylor) Dibble of Bethel passed away in the comfort of her home at the age of 85 on March 26, 2018 after a long illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Danbury, Connecticut on May 13, 1932, she attended Bethel schools and was a devoted mother who stayed at home to raise her four children before taking a job at the News Times in the Accounting Department where she made many friends.

Ruth was a lover of gardening and definitely had a green thumb. Not one to shy away from hard work or a challenge, she helped her husband Robert build their home in Bethel where she lived until her passing. She used to tell us stories of how she hand mixed concrete for the foundation.

Ruth was a 2nd generation seamstress and passed her knowledge of sewing and knitting down to her daughters and anyone else that wanted to learn. She handmade many outfits that we girls wore when we were younger.

One of her biggest joys was packing up the camper to spend the summers up North in Litchfield with daddy and the four of us.

We remember when we were children and it was time to come home Ruthie would whistle for us. It was loud enough to be heard throughout the neighborhood. Every night at six o’clock she would whistle once meaning it was dinner time, if she whistled twice–you were in trouble. Sometimes if a neighbor needed their kids home, they would call her and ask her to whistle to get the kids home. And it always worked!

She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Karen, her daughters Lisa and Linda and her husband Chris. She especially loved her grandchildren Sarah and Cooper. She is also survived by her sister Cecelia and her brother Teddy and several nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert and her daughter Sandra, who she will now join in heaven.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Bethel, Tuesday morning at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Rose Cemetery, Newtown, CT.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Stony Hill Fire Department, 57 Stony Hill Road, Bethel, CT 06801
