Obituary: Richard Merritt, of Bethel

Richard Merritt, longtime Bethel resident, has died. He passed away very early yesterday morning at Danbury Hospital, due to an ongoing illness. Rich would have been 73 today. Obituary to come.

Funeral service will be this coming Saturday, September 7th at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregation Church of Bethel, 46 Main Street in Bethel.

Rich Merritt was a 42-year Bethel resident; retired from General DataComm, Inc. Senior Telecommunications Applications Engineer, Member of the Bethel Republican Town Committee; Treasurer, Executive Committee Board Member on the Bethel Library Board of Directors, Chair of the Technology Committee, Chair of the Finance Committee and member of the Planning Committee. Past offices held include Permanent Municipal Renovation Building Committee; Board of Finance 2 years; Youth Commission Member 2001-2015 (8 years as Chairman). Graduate, Norwalk Technical College, Barnes Engineering Certified Infrared Technician; member Bridgeport CT Civil Defense & Auxiliary Policeman.

Rich Merritt was predeceased by his two daughters Kerri and Heather. He is survived by his wife Marcia, his granddaughter Kaylee, and a number of cousins.

SEPTEMBER 2, 1946 ~ SEPTEMBER 1, 2019 (AGE 72)

Richard Earl Merritt passed away peacefully on September 1, 2019 at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Connecticut. Richard was born September 2, 1946 in Norwalk, Connecticut to the late Margaret (Malinak) and Earl Clifford Merritt. Husband of Marcia (Hale) Merritt.

Services will be held on Saturday September 7, 2019 at the First Congregational Church (46 Main St, Bethel, CT 06801) at 11am.
