NWS: Winter Storm Watch in Effect from Friday Evening Through Saturday Evening, Possible 6-12″ of Heavy Snowfall and High Winds

The National Weather Service, New York, NY, Hazardous Weather Outlook includes a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Friday evening to Saturday evening and is predicting a possible 6-12″ of heavy snowfall and high winds for some portions of Connecticut and surrounding areas.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey and southeast New York. This includes Northern Fairfield-Northern New Haven-Northern Middlesex-Northern New London-Southern Fairfield-Southern New Haven- Southern Middlesex-Southern New London-Hudson-Northern Westchester-Southern Westchester-New York (Manhattan)-Bronx-Richmond (Staten Island)-Kings (Brooklyn)-Northwest Suffolk-Northeast Suffolk-Southwest Suffolk-Southeast Suffolk-Northern Queens-Northern Nassau-Southern Queens-Southern Nassau.

Winter Storm Watch

There is potential for a low pressure storm system to bring 6-12″ of heavy snowfall and high winds to the area Friday night into Saturday night. Minor to locally moderate coastal impacts are also possible for eastern portions of Long Island and vulnerable north facing coastal communities along Long Island Sound and the Great South Bay for the Saturday into Sunday high tides.

* WHAT…Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.

* WHERE…Portions of northeast New Jersey, southern Connecticut and southeast New York.

* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS… There continues to be greater than usual forecast uncertainty with the track of this storm, and the axis of heaviest snowfall may shift in subsequent forecast updates.
