Los Angeles, CA — A bizarre four-hour standoff between a nude woman and Los Angeles police came to an end Tuesday morning when she climbed out of her SUV and was taken into custody. Officers quickly covered her with a towel before escorting her away.
Standoff Begins in Bel-Air
The incident began when officers were dispatched to the 11000 block of Ovada Place in Bel-Air after receiving reports of a woman screaming, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews also responded to reports of a possible stabbing, though they did not locate any victims or transport anyone to a hospital.
Around 7 a.m., police began pursuing a Ford Bronco SUV, which eventually came to a stop on South Sepulveda Boulevard near Montana Avenue in Westwood. The driver, described as a nude woman, refused to leave the vehicle, sparking a tense standoff.
Traffic Chaos During the Standoff
By 7:30 a.m., KTLA’s Sky5 helicopter captured aerial footage showing the woman in the vehicle, which was stopped in the middle of the street.
The prolonged standoff caused significant traffic backups along Sepulveda Boulevard. By 9 a.m., the road was closed, and commuters were forced to find alternate routes.
At one point, the woman was seen in the backseat of the Bronco with a small dog. She later tossed a small hammer out of the vehicle, according to KTLA.
“The suspect, who appeared fully nude, remained inside the car despite repeated commands from officers,” Sky5 reporter Rich Prickett noted during the live broadcast.
Police Response and Escalation
Three armored police vehicles surrounded the SUV as officers attempted to negotiate with the woman. Despite the heavy police presence, she refused to come out.
Key moments included:
- The woman shifting from the driver’s seat to the backseat during the standoff.
- A hammer being thrown from the SUV.
- A small dog spotted inside the vehicle.
Officers remained cautious, closing the roadway and positioning tactical units nearby.
Standoff Ends After Four Hours
Shortly before 11 a.m., the situation came to an end. The woman climbed out of the vehicle and briefly attempted to get on the roof before stepping down.
“Officers quickly approached and covered the woman with a towel before taking her into custody,” LAPD said in a statement.
The standoff, which had lasted nearly four hours, concluded without further incident. Authorities confirmed the woman was transported for evaluation.
Community Impact
The unusual event drew significant public attention and disrupted one of the busiest traffic corridors on the Westside. Residents and commuters reported delays lasting much of the morning.
Police have not released the woman’s identity or provided details on what may have triggered the standoff.
