Novi-Northville, Michigan – A suspect was arrested Friday after allegedly stealing an ambulance from a crash scene with a patient inside and later colliding with another vehicle near the Novi-Northville city border, authorities said.
Incident Details
According to Novi Police Chief Erick Zinser, officers responded to a crash at approximately 3:15 p.m. at 10 Mile and Novi Roads. The driver involved in the initial crash, reportedly at fault, allegedly entered a Medstar ambulance at the scene while a paramedic was attending to a patient and drove off.
Police pursued the ambulance as it traveled through the area, ultimately colliding with another vehicle at Eight Mile and Beck Road. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody by responding officers.
Injuries and Damage
Medstar confirmed that both the paramedic and the patient in the ambulance sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the vehicle struck by the ambulance also suffered minor injuries.
The ambulance caught fire during the crash and is now considered a total loss, officials said to CBS News.
