Norwich, NY – The Norwich Police Department announced a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics after seizing 64 grams of fentanyl during a drug investigation on Wednesday morning.
Authorities stressed that the amount confiscated was enough to cause tens of thousands of fatal overdoses, underscoring the deadly impact fentanyl has on communities nationwide.
Suspect Arrested and Charges Filed
The suspect, identified as Leo J. Moore, 38, of Norwich, was taken into custody and charged with twelve felonies and four misdemeanors, including criminal possession of a controlled substance.
In addition to fentanyl, detectives reported seizing cocaine, methamphetamine, and a stun gun from Moore during the operation.
Investigation Comes to a Close
According to detectives, the arrest marked the conclusion of a lengthy investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine within the Norwich community.
Police Chief Reuben J. Roach praised the work of his team, stating:
“Fentanyl has devastated communities across the nation, and I am proud to announce that our detectives have removed a significant quantity of this dangerous drug from our streets today.”
Court Proceedings
Moore was arraigned in Norwich City Court and is currently being held without bail pending further legal proceedings as per WPNG. Authorities have not yet disclosed if additional arrests are expected in connection with the case.

Law enforcement agencies continue to highlight the extreme dangers of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 50 times stronger than heroin. Even a few milligrams can be lethal, making the 64 grams seized in this case particularly alarming.
