New York City, NY — A Nor’easter is expected to create hazardous travel conditions for commuters across the Northeast on Tuesday, with a mix of rain and snow affecting New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maine, according to meteorologists. Officials warn that while the morning commute may start relatively mild, the evening rush could see the heaviest rainfall and slowest travel.

FOX Weather meteorologist Cody Braud said, “Most of the early-morning commute will start dry or see some lighter rain. Likely will not be too many noticeable impacts until closer to 9 a.m.” However, he added, “The evening commute will be more problematic. Moderate to heavy rain will be falling during the entire duration of the evening commute. Travel by road will be slow, and travelers at airports are likely to see delays.

Rainfall Across Major Corridors

Rain is forecast to affect New York City and areas along I-95 throughout the day, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s to low 40s. Drivers are advised to remain cautious as wet roads can reduce traction and increase stopping distances.

Despite heavy rainfall, forecasters do not anticipate dangerous ice accumulations on roadways. The Nor’easter is expected to exit the region by Wednesday morning, allowing conditions to improve for midweek commutes.

Snowfall North of I-95

While rain dominates southern portions of the Northeast, areas north of I-95 will experience the first significant snowfall of the season, as per The Post.

Projected Snow Totals

  • Westchester County, NY — Up to 2 inches
  • Western edge of Passaic County, NJ — Around 1 inch
  • Lower Hudson Valley — Approximately 3 inches
  • Albany area — Upwards of 8 inches
  • Northern Vermont, New Hampshire, and parts of Maine — More than 8 inches

Snowfall rates may reach 1 inch per hour in some areas, prompting the New York State Department of Transportation to advise drivers to plan ahead for commutes and exercise caution on snowy roads.

Travel Impacts Expected

The combination of rain in southern regions and snow further north will create travel challenges for commuters, particularly during the evening rush. Airports are likely to see flight delays, and roadway congestion is expected across the metropolitan area.

Officials emphasize that travelers should monitor weather updates, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution during snow and rain-covered commutes.
