New “Passenger” App for Metro-North Riders, Endorsed by Commuter Action Group
There is a new smart-phone app available to Metro-North riders that will ease the burden of keeping track of train schedules and has built-in Uber rides. Sam and Andrew Dozdov, brothers from Scarsdale, New York, developed the “Passenger” App, a Metro-North schedule app.
According to a Uber Newsroom report, “24% of Uber trips in Connecticut begin or end near a public transit station.” This means that more and more riders are opting for Uber instead of having to park their cars. “Many stations have a four or five year wait for annual permits, which can cost up to $650; and day-parking is expensive, if you can find it,” writes Jim Cameron on his blog “Talking transportation.” It also indicates that train schedules timetables are even more important to monitor now. There is another App for Metro-North called the “Train Time” App, that Cameron says crashes frequently.

What makes this App different from other similar Apps is that it is more user-friendly. For instance, it automatically changes your train schedule on your device twice a day to set it to your ride into work and the return trip. There is a way to forward your ETA to a friend, a weather report, a way to contact the brothers, called “Chat with Us,” to be able to report possible problems or suggest ideas, etc., an alarm, and also a “friendly quote.” The brothers are equally interested in the interaction of the App with the customer, making them feel comfortable and at ease, as well as the function of the App.
There is a special offer from Uber, a $20 credit for new customers, if you try the service. Download the Passenger App and Uber App use the code RIDEMNR.
The brothers plan a possible similar desktop computer App in the near future, to check train schedules from home, and geared to other train lines too.
