Madbury, NH — A tragic murder-suicide in Madbury, New Hampshire earlier this week claimed the lives of a mother, father, and two children, police confirmed.

Family Found Dead in Their Home

On Monday, August 18, 2025, Emily Long, 34, shot and killed her husband, Ryan Long, 48, and their two children, Parker Long, 8, and Ryan Long, 6, before taking her own life, according to a statement from the New Hampshire Attorney’s Office. A third child, who was unharmed, was discovered inside the home.

“Based upon the information available at this time, it appears that in the early morning hours of Monday, August 18, 2025, Ms. Long took a handgun from the home and caused the deaths of Ryan Long and her two children, Parker and Ryan, and then took her own life immediately thereafter,” the release said (source).

Autopsy Results Reveal Cause of Death

An autopsy performed Wednesday confirmed the manner of death for each family member:

  • Both children, Parker and Ryan, died from a single gunshot to the head.
  • Ryan Long suffered multiple gunshot wounds, while Emily Long died from a single gunshot wound.

The deaths were immediately ruled as homicide, with Emily’s death classified as a suicide.

Investigation Details and No Threat to Public

Authorities have stated that there is no threat to the public following this incident, and the investigation remains ongoing. Although investigators are aware of “various concerns/issues ongoing in the household at the time,” officials urged the public not to speculate about the causes or stressors that may have led to this tragic event.

“While investigators are becoming aware of various concerns/issues ongoing in the household at the time of the event in question, people should avoid speculating that this event was caused by a single reason or stressor,” the statement continued.

A Community in Shock

The news of this incident has left the Madbury community in deep shock, as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to this senseless tragedy.

The third child, whose identity has not been released, was found unharmed inside the home and is now under the care of relatives.
