Houston, TX – Cameron Clark Jackson, 27, has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of Za’Wight Johnson, a 13-year-old boy, after police say he fired multiple shots into a west Houston apartment on August 10.
Details of the Incident
The shooting took place around 3:15 p.m. at 12658 Ashford Meadow. Although the motive remains unclear, authorities do not believe the shooting was random, as several shots were fired into a single apartment. Houston Police responded to reports of the shooting, where they found that Za’Wight Johnson had been struck by a bullet that pierced the door of the apartment.
Sgt. Charlie Lamonte confirmed that several people were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, including Johnson’s mother. The 13-year-old boy was in the living room when he was shot in the leg.
Residents’ Efforts to Help
Residents of the apartment complex rushed to help the boy, but tragically, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident has left the community shaken and heartbroken.
Arrest and Charges
Further investigation led authorities to identify Cameron Clark Jackson as the suspect. On Thursday, August 14, he was arrested by the HPD Westside Patrol Divisional Gang Unit and charged with murder by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
