Moody, AL — A multi-city police pursuit that spanned several jurisdictions on Monday afternoon, November 24, concluded with the arrest of a 46-year-old Homewood man, now facing an array of criminal charges.
Authorities say the chase began in Moody, Alabama, and weaved through neighboring communities before ending in Birmingham’s Roebuck neighborhood.
Suspect Identified After Stolen Vehicle Report
According to Moody officials, the incident began when officers attempted to pull over a vehicle reported stolen. The driver — later identified as Jason Moreland, 46, of Homewood — refused to stop, triggering an extended pursuit through several populated areas.
Moody Police Chief Reece Smith confirmed that officers initially located the stolen vehicle within city limits. However, Moreland allegedly accelerated and continued driving despite police commands, creating a volatile situation across local roadways.
Pursuit Moves Through Trussville, Crashes Reported
As Moreland sped into Trussville, the situation became more complicated for law enforcement. Trussville Mayor Ben Short stated that police in the city were already responding to two separate crashes believed to have been caused as the pursuit moved through the area.
The crashes contributed to traffic delays and raised safety concerns for drivers along the roadway. Despite the risk, officers continued tracking the suspect while ensuring the safety of the public, as per WBRC.
