Mullens Man Arrested after High-Speed Pursuit in Kanawha County, faces Nearly 20 Charges

Kanawha County, WV – William Cody Thomas, 34, of Mullens, was arrested following a high-speed pursuit in Kanawha County on Wednesday morning, facing nearly 20 criminal charges stemming from the incident. Troopers say the pursuit began after they were alerted to a stolen vehicle from Raleigh County that had traveled through South Charleston.

Chase Through Charleston and Interstates

The pursuit began when troopers located the vehicle in the parking lot of a Family Dollar on Washington Street in Charleston. Thomas allegedly fled a traffic stop, leading officers on a chase through the West Side of Charleston and South Charleston, before continuing onto Interstate 64 and then Interstate 77.

Authorities reported that Thomas reached speeds of nearly 100 mph, creating a dangerous situation for motorists and officers alike.

End of Pursuit and Arrest

The chase concluded at the Marmet exit of I-77, where Thomas appeared to stop under an overpass. Troopers blocked the vehicle and, after Thomas refused commands and attempted to flee, officers broke the driver’s window, tasered him, and removed him from the vehicle. Thomas was reportedly under the influence and provided false identification during the arrest.

After treatment at a nearby hospital, Thomas was processed and booked at South Central Regional Jail.
