Details of the Collision

According to the San Diego Police Department, the woman was riding a Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Poway Road when she collided with the driver’s side door of a Mitsubishi Montero SUV driven by the 72-year-old man. At the time of the collision, the woman was facing a red light, while the man had a green arrow to proceed through the intersection. The motorcycle’s speed remains unclear.

Several nearby residents were startled awake by the crash. Witness Margaret Robertson described the impact as a “very loud crash and bang” and noted, “It sounded like there were no brakes.” She added that it was clear the incident was “something very bad.”

Witness Nicolis Sandoval described the intersection as a “speedway,” with traffic traveling at speeds much higher than the posted 50 mph limit. He commented, “People are hauling all the way through here,” adding that living in the area had made him somewhat desensitized to accidents.

Investigation and Traffic Concerns

The San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating the crash. Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the collision to contact the SDPD or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

The Sabre Springs intersection has become notorious for high-speed traffic coming off Interstate 15, contributing to the frequency of accidents in the area.
