Evanston, IL — Northwestern University professor Nina Kraus, 72, who was reported missing Monday morning after leaving her home for a walk, has been located, according to Evanston police.
Authorities said Kraus was found around 5 p.m. in the area near her home and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police have not released details about her condition.
Reported Missing After Morning Walk
Kraus’s family told investigators she had left home for exercise, which was not unusual for her routine. They believed she may have been headed toward the lakefront, but when she didn’t return within a few hours, they became concerned and reported her missing.
The case quickly drew attention across Evanston, where police worked with community members to track her whereabouts.
Police Investigation and Search
Authorities said they conducted a drone search around the lakefront and canvassed the area for surveillance video. Evanston Police Commander Ryan Glew emphasized that there was no indication of foul play in Kraus’s disappearance.
“That investigation has included canvassing for privately and publicly-owned video,” Glew explained. “It has also included us doing a drone search around the lakefront.”
Police confirmed Kraus had left her phone at home, which complicated the search. Glew noted that normally the phone would be the “first go-to” for investigators to help track a missing person.
Evanston police also collaborated with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, using dogs to help in the search efforts.
The situation was first reported by FOX 32 Chicago.
