Milwaukee Woman Dies after Being Hit by Suspected Impaired Driver; Family Grieving the Loss

Milwaukee, Wisc. – A Wisconsin mother and grandmother was tragically killed Friday evening after being struck by an allegedly impaired driver while crossing the street near her home, authorities reported. The victim, Robin Dieringer, was a breast cancer survivor, mother of four, and grandmother of three.

Tragic Incident on Fond du Lac Avenue

Milwaukee police said the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on December 26, near the intersection of Fond du Lac Avenue and Townsend Street. Dieringer was reportedly walking to a gas station just a block from her home when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a person suspected of being impaired.

According to authorities, the driver has not been publicly identified. Police have referred charges to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. It remains unclear whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Family Remembers Robin Dieringer

Dieringer’s daughter, Jasmine Dieringer, shared her grief in interviews with local news outlets. “She wasn’t doing anything wrong. She was just crossing the street,” Jasmine said. “I told her I loved her a million times over just the day before.

Jasmine described the devastating impact of losing her mother. “I haven’t been able to sleep, I haven’t been able to eat. I just feel like I’m in shock,” she told CBS affiliate WDJT.

Family and friends remember Robin Dieringer as strong, resilient, and full of life, having survived breast cancer and devoted herself to her children and grandchildren.

Surveillance Footage Shows Driver Speeding

According to reports, surveillance video obtained by WITI allegedly shows the driver speeding toward Dieringer before striking her. The crash occurred the day after Christmas, adding to the emotional toll on the family during the holiday season.

“I just hope people slow down and think before they get behind the wheel,” Jasmine said. “Just because of somebody’s poor choice…all the people that are gonna be affected…just slow down and think.

Community Response and Safety Concerns

Milwaukee police continue to investigate the crash, while family members are urging the public to make safer choices on the road, especially during the holiday season when traffic and pedestrian activity are high.

Jasmine Dieringer shared her perspective on justice, saying, “Justice to me would be that people think twice before they are behind the wheel intoxicated or if they’re driving fast…more than just the one person getting punished. I hope they feel it in their heart, the pain they caused, and there’s lessons learned.”

The tragedy has sparked discussions about pedestrian safety and the dangers posed by impaired or speeding drivers, highlighting the importance of vigilance on city streets.

What do you think communities can do to prevent pedestrian accidents caused by impaired or reckless drivers? How can drivers be more mindful during busy holiday periods?
