Michigan Man Accused of Sexual Assault and Kidnapping Plot Across Borders; Also Targeted Women on Dating Sites

Royal Oak, MI – A Michigan man is facing multiple charges in the United States and Canada after allegedly sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy from Windsor, Canada, and attempting to kidnap him. Authorities revealed that the suspect, Shahzad Hameedi, 46, of Royal Oak, may have used several aliases and could have additional victims.

Charges and Legal Action

In Canada, Hameedi faces nine criminal charges, including:

  • Aggravated sexual assault
  • Sexual interference with a person under 16
  • Assault causing bodily harm

In the U.S., he has been charged with attempting to kidnap a minor, which carries a potential prison sentence of 20 years or more. As per ClickonDetroit, Hameedi is currently being held in a Michigan detention center.

Investigation Details

According to Windsor Police Staff Sgt. David Tennent, the Windsor Police Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation on June 25, 2025, after a woman reported that her son had injuries following an unsupervised visit with a friend identified as Hameedi. The boy’s injuries were later determined to be consistent with sexual assault.

Days prior to the assault, Hameedi allegedly broke into the woman’s home and choked her. He was also linked to reports of a “suspicious person” outside her home before the attack. The woman initially allowed Hameedi to spend time with her son, unaware he was the suspect in the home invasion.

Crime Scene and Evidence

During the home invasion, the woman struggled with the attacker, managing to remove his black ski mask, but could not identify him. The suspect left behind a ski mask, black hat, and handheld Taser. Following the assault, police set up surveillance cameras at the home to help ensure safety.

After further investigation, authorities linked Hameedi to the home invasion and sexual assault, prompting a provisional arrest warrant for:

  • Aggravated sexual assault
  • Sexual interference with a person under 16
  • Breaking and entering to commit an indictable offense
  • Two counts of assault-choking while wearing a face mask
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Assault causing bodily harm

Arrest and Discovery

U.S. Marshals arrested Hameedi at his Royal Oak home, and search warrants executed on his home and cell phones allegedly revealed a plot to kidnap the child. Authorities also discovered that Hameedi had used multiple identities and aliases, with different spellings of his name and altered birthdays.

He is linked to identities in Canada, Michigan, Indiana, and New York, and investigators warn he may be targeting women through dating sites, raising concerns about additional victims.

Authorities urge anyone with information about Hameedi or potential victims to come forward. Comment below if you have tips that could help protect the community.
