Mayor Boughton: Gov. Malloy’s Actions Are ‘Outrageous’ Regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Mayor Mark Boughton’s Message:

As Mayor of the City of Danbury, my number one duty is to protect the citizens that I serve.

Last week, Governor Malloy and his Democrat friends decided to play politics and cast fear and anger among our communities. They scared our children. They scared our families.

I believe it was deeply irresponsible of Governor Malloy to send a memo telling officials that they are not required to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

We have worked with ICE in the past to stop human trafficking, sex trafficking, crimes against children, and other horrific crimes.  In fact, in 2006, Danbury police officers worked with ICE to identify and deport a murderer who was wanted in his native country. We will continue our relationship that has kept nearly two dozen serious criminals off of Danbury’s streets and out of our country. Danbury is consistently ranked one of the safest cities in Connecticut becuase we are proactive in our policing.

With Governor Malloy’s actions, it’s apparent that we need the Connecticut Comeback. More than ever we need our statewide leaders to protect our citizens and stand by their word.

Let me be clear: I believe in the rule of law and I am a leader who gets dangerous criminals off our streets. I’ve had great success in doing so in Danbury, and I want the same for the rest of Connecticut.

Join our team and together, we can be Connecticut’s Comeback.

All my best,

Mark Boughton
