Craven County, NC — Authorities are conducting an intense manhunt for 24-year-old Dominic Liam Connelly, accused of killing his grandmother, setting her home on fire, and later stabbing a sheriff’s deputy before fleeing the scene. Officials say Connelly is armed and dangerous and warn the public not to approach him.
According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began after emergency crews responded to a house fire over the weekend and discovered the body of 72-year-old Patricia Lopedote, who was later identified as Connelly’s grandmother.
Timeline of the Incident
Authorities say Connelly allegedly set his grandmother’s home on fire before killing her and escaping in her vehicle. The car was found abandoned in New Bern on Tuesday, prompting an immediate search across nearby counties.
The next day, Connelly was reportedly spotted at a Bojangles restaurant in Vanceboro, where he confronted officers in the restroom.
“When officers attempted to approach Connelly, he allegedly attacked a deputy with a knife before fleeing,” investigators said.
The injured deputy was treated for stab wounds and is expected to recover.

Law enforcement agencies across Craven and surrounding counties have joined the search effort, setting up checkpoints and using K-9 units and helicopters to track Connelly’s movements.
