Perry County, Tenn. — A 29-year-old man died Tuesday morning after his dump truck swerved off the road and overturned on Highway 412, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).

The crash occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m., when the man was driving a Kenworth dump truck eastbound on the highway.

Crash Details

As the truck approached a left-hand curve, it began to swerve, leaving the right side of the road before re-entering the highway. The vehicle then crossed the center line and flipped, coming to rest facing south across the east and westbound lanes.

Investigators noted that the truck driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died at the scene.

A 32-year-old woman, driving a Dodge Durango, was also involved. As the dump truck began moving erratically, she attempted to swerve to avoid a collision, causing her vehicle to flip and catch fire.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that she was wearing a seatbelt and sustained suspected minor injuries.

Safety Reminders from THP

The THP reminds drivers to:

  • Always wear seatbelts
  • Maintain safe speeds around curves
  • Stay alert for erratic vehicles
