Man Dies After Walking Into I-275 Traffic in Canton Township

Canton Township, Michigan – The southbound lanes of Interstate 275 in Canton Township, Wayne County, Michigan, reopened late Monday night following a fatal pedestrian crash, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

Details of the Incident

Michigan State Police (MSP) reported that at approximately 7:55 p.m., Canton police were notified of a crash near Ford Road. Investigators found that a man had parked his car on the right shoulder and then walked into the southbound lanes of I-275.

One approaching driver managed to avoid the pedestrian, but a second vehicle struck the man in the middle lane, according to MSP. Both drivers remained at the scene following the collision as per CBS News.

Victim Pronounced Dead

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have stated that the victim’s family has not yet been notified. The southbound lanes reopened shortly before midnight, after being closed for several hours.

Investigation Ongoing

MSP 1st Lieutenant Mike Shaw said troopers plan to interview family members to determine why the pedestrian entered the roadway. He added, “Remember, you are not alone.
