Amityville, NY – A 34-year-old Long Island man was arrested after allegedly raping and robbing a 12-year-old boy in his family’s Amityville home earlier this month, prosecutors confirmed. Authorities say the suspect groomed the child on a mobile dating app before committing the shocking crimes, highlighting ongoing concerns about online safety for minors.
Alleged Assault Occurs Inside Family Home
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the incident occurred on December 6, 2025, while the boy was home alone. Marquise Utsey, 34, reportedly arrived at the residence and allegedly sexually assaulted the child before demanding money.
“Fearing for his own safety, the victim went into a family member’s bedroom and allegedly gave Utsey the money that he found there,” said District Attorney Raymond Tierney in a press release.
Authorities confirmed that Utsey then fled the scene, leaving the boy traumatized. When his parents returned home, the child disclosed the disturbing encounter, prompting them to contact law enforcement immediately.
Grooming on Social Networking App
Investigators said the boy first encountered Utsey through a social networking and dating mobile application, though officials did not reveal the platform’s name. Prosecutors say the suspect exploited the app to gain access to a minor, demonstrating calculated premeditation.
“The conduct alleged in this indictment reflects utterly reprehensible behavior and a profound betrayal of human decency,” Tierney said. “The defendant was a complete stranger who allegedly used a mobile app to gain access to a child for his own sick benefit.”
