Light Snow and Mild Temperatures Forecast for Northern New Jersey

Jersey City, NJ – Parts of northern New Jersey can expect light snow on Monday, though accumulations are expected to remain minimal, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Meteorologists say the snow will likely leave only a thin coating, with more significant snowfall unlikely.

Monday Snow and Temperatures

The NWS reported Sunday afternoon that total snow accumulations will likely be limited to a coating, primarily affecting areas north of the I-78 corridor. The snow is expected to begin in the afternoon and continue into the evening, creating slick spots on roads, though major disruptions are not anticipated.

Overnight lows Sunday into Monday will dip into the teens and 20s, while Monday’s highs will range from the 30s to the low 40s in southeast New Jersey, providing slightly milder daytime conditions despite the morning chill.

Warming Trend Through Tuesday

A warm front will move through the region Monday night into Tuesday, gradually moderating temperatures. By Tuesday afternoon, highs are expected to climb into the 40s across most areas.

While Tuesday will remain mostly dry with considerable cloud cover, light precipitation may move into the area late in the afternoon or during the evening. In northeast New Jersey, temperatures may hover around freezing Tuesday night, creating the potential for light snow or a thin glaze of freezing rain.

Breezy and Mild Midweek

Wednesday is forecast to be breezy, with winds coming from the west and northwest, accompanied by sunny skies. Temperatures will continue to rise, reaching the 50s south of I-78 and remaining in the 40s to the north, providing a pleasant midweek warm-up for residents.

High Pressure Maintains Dry Conditions

Thursday will see the return of high pressure, ensuring dry weather and sunshine. Temperatures are expected to run roughly 10 degrees above average, giving the region a mild, springlike feel for early January.

Strong System Approaching for Friday and Weekend

Looking toward the end of the week, a stronger storm system tracking north and west of New Jersey will begin to influence the region. A warm front on Friday is expected to bring rain and southerly winds, with temperatures climbing into the mid-to-upper 50s.

The system will continue into Saturday, with gusty winds and temperatures potentially reaching 60 degrees in the southern part of the state. A strong cold front is forecast to move through late Saturday, bringing additional showers followed by blustery conditions and seasonable temperatures on Sunday.

Residents are advised to monitor road conditions, particularly Monday afternoon and evening when light snow may create slick spots, and again Tuesday night if temperatures drop near freezing.
